Ole's story
Ole Kirk Kristiansen was born in 1891. He is the founder of The Lego Group and the man behind the modern Lego Brick. However, he didn't always make Lego Bricks. In fact, he started out as a carpenter! Unfortunately, Europe's great depression put him out of work. He started a new company called Lego in 1932. During this time, he often borrowed money from his family to keep his company afloat. In 1942, a fire destroyed his life work. After that he bought a new store and drew all the lost designs himself. Then, in 1947, Ole bought a plastic molding machine. The risk was great, but the reward was even greater. What Ole made was the Automatic Binding Brick. by 1951, half of all Lego toys were being made out of plastic. Then, in 1958, he invented the modern Lego brick. Sadly, that same year, Ole passed away.
